Mystical massive lake trout!

Lake Superior had heavy fog on Sunday, creating an eerie, almost magical backdrop for an unforgettable fishing charter. #BassProShops founder Johnny Morris said #TakeAKidFishing but not-at-all-indoors.com aboard OFFline takes the entire family - even better! I guided a wonderful family of six—including three young boys—out for their very first fishing experience from a boat.

Lake Superior is truly an inland ocean and must always be treated as such—safety and smarts come first. This trip was only possible with the help of Mother Nature's light winds, though we had to endure a dense fog and brisk winds. At one point, we could hear the thunderous foghorn from the lighthouse only a few hundred yards away, completely swallowed by the mist and invisible to the eye. Travelling out and back, I taught the kids how to drive the boat by keeping our navigation heading arrow straight on the chart plotter while we carefully scanned the mist for other vessels - a real life video game per say.

Despite the conditions, Superior didn't disappoint. Two of the boys landed absolute tanks in the 10-pound range, and we even let one of them swim back into the cool clear frigid water, which the fourth, youngest child absolutely loved. To top off a perfect day, we pulled in for a classic shore lunch, and I cleaned up a couple of large fillets for the family to take home and throw on the BBQ for supper one night..

Visit not-at-all-indoors.com to book an unforgettable adventure trip for your group or family along the beautiful North Shore of Superior!

#TravelOntario #SuperiorCountry #FishOntario

When you only have one day available, you have to take what mother nature's going to throw at you, assuming it's safe. I was able to get this family of 3 out to where the fish are and I told them nobody sees Lake Superior like it is today. it was rough but they handled it like champs and even overcame some seasickness. A delicious shore lunch and a great day despite rough water. At least the water temperature was cooperating at around 50 to 54° Fahrenheit. My lund Tyee 1800 boat performed very well.

A little bit of everything

Today's fishing adventure on Lake Superior tallied a little bit of everything summed up as a great day. New and old tackle, different types too. Rods, techniques and speed, all mixed in. Fog and smoke. Low visibility vs high visibility above and below the water surface and water temperatures ranging from 52F to 63F in the fishing areas. A big part of guiding is balancing it all between locations that are working that day vs those that aren't, and knowing when to move on. A superb day on Gitchigoomie bringing home a limit of Lakers for the BBQ and smoker and releasing a massive coaster square tail back into the water.

Gord’s obsession with the water began decades ago, built on a lifetime of exploring, mapping, and studying the rugged wilderness, deep channels, and hidden river transitions of Northern Ontario. He specializes in tracking down trophy Lake Trout, heavy Rainbow Trout, aggressive Northern Pike, and golden Walleye in productive zones like Black Bay.

As an active student of regional fisheries and local history, Gord’s true specialty is the dedicated hunt for legendary Nipigon "Coaster" Brook Trout. The world-record genetics of this pristine river system are famous worldwide. In fact, Gord loves sharing the fascinating history of how these exact Nipigon Brook Trout strains were originally introduced to Fortress Lake in British Columbia, where they went on to produce some of the largest, most spectacular brook trout on the planet.
