Meet Captain Gord Nuttall
Captain Gord Nuttall is the owner, operator, and driving force behind Not-At-All-Indoors, the premier private fishing charter and scenic tour provider operating across the Nipigon River, Lake Nipigon, and Lake Superior. Gord’s obsession with the water began decades ago, built on a lifetime of exploring, mapping, and studying the rugged wilderness, deep channels, and hidden river transitions of Northern Ontario. Whether he is scouting the fast water near the former Virgin Falls site with his father or guiding clients to their next personal best, Gord is known for a simple rule: he is not a lazy guide. He works tenaciously hard on every single excursion to ensure his guests experience a safe, comfortable, and truly unforgettable day on the water.
A Passion for Trophy Tactics & Local Heritage
With extensive experience navigating the diverse and demanding waters of the Nipigon area, Captain Gord has developed an elite reputation for multi-species targeting. He specializes in tracking down trophy Lake Trout, heavy Rainbow Trout, aggressive Northern Pike, and golden Walleye in productive zones like Black Bay.
As an active student of regional fisheries and local history, Gord’s true specialty is the dedicated hunt for legendary Nipigon "Coaster" Brook Trout. The world-record genetics of this pristine river system are famous worldwide. In fact, Gord loves sharing the fascinating history of how these exact Nipigon Brook Trout strains were originally introduced to Fortress Lake in British Columbia, where they went on to produce some of the largest, most spectacular brook trout on the planet. For Gord, a trophy hunt isn't about numbers—it's about respecting the fishery, reading the seasonal patterns, and capitalizing on the quality of the opportunities when they count.
Elite Narration & Historical Sunset Cruises
Beyond the rod and reel, Captain Gord is deeply connected to the unique history, architecture, and indigenous heritage of the North Shore. Drawing from an extensive, detailed tour manual, Gord provides fascinating live narration during his private Nipigon River Sunset Cruises. Guests onboard learn the historical significance of landmarks like St. Anne’s Church on Lake Helen, the engineering marvel of the new Trans-Canada cable-stayed bridge by the gravel banks of Gapen’s Pool, the old railroad bridge built from Vert Island red sandstone, and the ancient Native pictographs painted on the towering Red Rock cliffs.
Welcome Aboard "OFFline"
All trips take place aboard "OFFline," Captain Gord’s premium 18’ Lund Tyee full-windshield boat, powered by a high-performance 175HP Mercury Verado engine. Built specifically to handle the unpredictable, big-water conditions of Lake Nipigon and the inland ocean of Lake Superior, this rig represents a massive investment in angler comfort and high-end trout tactics.
The boat is uniquely optimized to give fly-fishing anglers a wide, rock-solid, and completely unobstructed casting platform that eliminates wave slap and keeps shallow fish from spooking. It operates just as beautifully for deep-water trolling, vertical jigging, and casting traditional gear. To ensure an elite, uncrowded experience, "OFFline" accommodates a maximum of 3 anglers for serious fishing trips (ideal for 1–2 fly fishermen) or up to 5 passengers for relaxed family adventure trips and golden hour evening cruises.
The Premium Charter Experience
When you step onto the deck with Captain Gord, everything is fully provided: top-tier rods and reels, custom tackle, modern marine electronics, required safety gear, life jackets, and refreshing non-alcoholic beverages. Depending on the custom itinerary you design together, your day can even feature a packed lunch or a traditional wilderness shore lunch memory—cooking up the absolute freshest fish ever, straight from the water to the pan.
Whether you are looking to book an action-packed family day, a deeply narrated historic tour, or a grueling trophy trout hunt, Captain Gord Nuttall delivers a professional, relentless, and welcoming guiding experience from start to finish.
