I guided a wonderful family of six—including three young boys—out for their very first fishing experience from a boat.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: 16px;">Lake Superior is truly an inland ocean and must always be treated as such—safety and smarts come first. This trip was only possible with the help of Mother Nature's light winds, though we had to endure a dense fog and brisk winds. At one point, we could hear the thunderous foghorn from the lighthouse only a few hundred yards away, completely swallowed by the mist and invisible to the eye. Travelling out and back, I taught the kids how to drive the boat by keeping our navigation heading arrow straight on the chart plotter while we carefully scanned the mist for other vessels - a real life video game per say.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: 16px;">Despite the conditions, Superior didn't disappoint. Two of the boys landed absolute tanks in the 10-pound range, and we even let one of them swim back into the cool clear frigid water, which the fourth, youngest child absolutely loved.
